Humble Beginnings

In 1988, Antelope Mines embarked on a mission to transform mining practices in the Migori region of Kenya. Artisanal miners worked in dire conditions using rudimentary tools and outdated techniques. These methods hampered efficiency and posed serious health and environmental risks. Miners pounded gold ore with silage hammers, inhaled harmful dust, and used mercury with bare hands. In response to these challenges, William Ojwando initiated a groundbreaking change. He introduced a small ball mill, an innovation that would prove pivotal for the region.

Remarkable Transformation of Mining In the Region

“Presently, there are approximately 5,000 employed miners in Migori County, each earning an average of 500 Kenyan Shillings per day. This collective workforce yields a substantial daily income of at least 7 million Shillings. Antelope Mines has made enormous strides toward safe and environmentally friendly mining practices. With the assistance of tank leaching, inspired by neighbouring Tanzania, they have taken significant steps to eradicate the use of mercury. Instead, they now utilize a safe and eco-friendly Gold Dressing Agent (GDA) for their leaching processes. This not only streamlines operations but also ensures the safety of their workforce

Future Goals For Antelope Mine

Antelope Mines has ambitious plans for the future. They aim to further increase daily production through the acquisition of advanced tools, including compressors, drilling, and blasting equipment, and a wet ball mill with a capacity of 5 tons per hour. By adopting these innovations, they can increase their daily gold production substantially.

       Financial  Goals  and Planning

They aim to achieve these goals by emphasizing sound financial planning and maintaining substantial working capital. Their dedication to both simplicity and safety in work processes is commendable. The entire mining process adheres to rigorous safety protocols, utilizing electric winches for ore extraction and employing GDA in leaching processes.

Antelope Mines is currently in the expansion phase, intending to introduce elution tanks to process more gold ore. This expansion plan aims to centralize all processes, ensuring enhanced efficiency and a greater focus on environmental responsibility.

Antelope Mines, under the leadership of William Ojwando, stands as a beacon of hope for Kenya’s mining industry. Their journey, from humble beginnings to groundbreaking innovations, is a testament to the transformative power of commitment and dedication.
